Just What Is With a 'Bad Boy'?

If there was not a market for the Badboy, would the Badboy not exist?

As a young girl I was on occasion, attracted to what may be construed as the BadBoy. The Badboy could be anything that would seem forbidden, from the look, the perpetual sneer, ripped jeans, messy hair, to the brooding artist who was terribly misunderstood. The Badboy who only wore black. The Badboy that wore dreadnoughts, the Badboy that dyed his hair blue, the Badboy that shaved his head. The Badboy with the Harley. The Badboy with the tattoo. The Badboy musician. The Badboy, ahhhh...

I do not think there was a real dress code per say it was more... an aura. I did not necessarily go out with all these type of guys but I was definitely attracted to them.

My husband is afraid of the future.

He is afraid that one of these boys may end up on our doorstep and want to court our/HIS daughter. He feels as though, the Badboy attraction, could be inherited through my genes. My husband is attempting to 'train' my daughter into what she may want in a boyfriend, ions from now. He is thinking along the lines of nurture versus nature.

The training began by watching the Pirates of the Caribbean. The movie with Orlando Bloom, as the dutiful, Will Turner and Johnny Depp, as sexy, Captain Jack Sparrow. I listened as my husband gave a commentary on how wonderful Will Turner is as a person. He works hard, he has a craft. Will Turner is patient, kind and only has one love and that is that of Elizabeth.
My husband, would then go on about Captain Jack Sparrow and how he was a philanderer, how he didn't even bath, his teeth were made of gold and he seems to drink way toooo much.

He thinks the point is driven home to our eight year old.

After the movie we head up to bedtime routine.

I read my daughter her stories and then we turn out the light.

'Momma, it's about that pirate movie. '

'Yes, love.'

'You know the pirate that Daddy liked? '

'Yes. '

'Well, he was good. He was nice, I mean. '

'Yes, honey. '

'Well, you know that other pirate? '

'Yeeesss?'

'You know the one with the hair, the eyes, the teeth, and the crooked smile? '

'Yes .'

'Momma, I like him... I mean I liked him ALOT, ALOT!!!! '

Serves my husband right... Keith Richards is just a few years away!

Nurture versus nature!!!! HA!

There'll always be a market for the Badboys...at least at our house...

Ha ha. Smart husband.

I am a former Badboy chaser who is also afraid of the future!

Let's hope nurture wins out.

I'm with You! But as long as she has one visible piercing I am happy... and not a tattoo until she is over 20...

Johnny Depp...the only guy that my 16 year old and I both have the hots for, except that she can hang his posters in her room, and I think my husband would hate that in our room.

As a former bad boy lover myself, I totally understand where you AND your daughter are coming from. LOL.

How cool that your hubby wants to start getting her turned onto the nice boys though!

Having been attracted to the bad boys myself for many years, I think I can indulge my daughters if they want to date the bad boys. But under no circumstances can they MARRY a bad boy...

Absolutely hilarious. Your daughter has good taste, Johnny Depp is so sexy and charming in that movie. Tell your husband that she needs to date a few bad boys ... once she gets her heart broken she'll start going for the good ones.

That's so cute. I was always attracted to bad boys when I was younger too - I hope my daughter doesn't inherit this condition...

I love it! Although, I can feel your husband's pain, my bigger concern is the bee-yotches my sons may bring home!

Yeah, I am worried about the bee-oyths too, like Kristen. yoowser. And since if I only have boys, if they like the bad boys types, well, then, I have worried about all the wrong stuff I guess. :)

In my youth I was the badboy.

Now I'm the nice guy.

Bad boy got more chicks.

Nice guy is quite comfortable and very happy - and gets as much quiet time as he wants.

With all of his grandkids.

They learn so young, don't they? I've always been attracted to the bad boys myself but I ended up marrying a good boy. Perhaps she needs to get the whole bad thing out of her system early.

My dad was an A1 preppy good guy and I too like-a the bad boys. You're powerless to prevent it altogether. The best you can hope is that it's a phase.

I, too, liked the bad boys. But I could have predicted that your husband's plan would fail which is why I'm contemplating pretending that I hate everything I love and love everything I hate...lol

I love it!! Men are so funny when it comes to their daughters :)
I do think though that Dad should know we almost all grow up and look for men like our Daddies, and that by being a good guy and spending time with her and loving her and doing all that silly stuff with her that Dads do ...is what will stand out in her mind when she settles down. It probably wont save her from the likes of a Johnny Depp or two though lol

Thanks for stopping by my page, sorry it took so long for me to visit :)

This is so funny! I've been anti-bad boy since the day I was born. I was in love with Richie Cunningham, for goodness sakes...so I love Dad's little commentary. I'm just praying nurture wins out!
